Still in Crazytown ... but with a sound track

How you know you've been in quarantine too long:

Your daughter offers to sing the Star Spangled Banner to you .... "in different fonts"

Then proceeds to sing it in Times New Roman and Comic Sans, as well as in bold and cursive

...And it totally sounds right.

Forced Family Fun

These days, here in Crazytown, Ellie spends so much time hunkered down in her room that we require periodic 'proof of life' photos from her to make sure she is alive. And for now, yeah, that's ok for the most part, but we do demand the occasional Forced Family Fun. Like the other night, where we taught the kids the essential skill of poker. And it was pretty much a microcosm of our family - Ellie was fast and loose with her money, Jack played it quiet and conservative, and Lydia fussed at Jared for constantly changing the rules. So, business as usual. Except with poker chips.

Sorenson's Good Enough Salon

Here in Crazytown, where pretty much everything is closed down, we sometimes have to accept "good enough" solutions. Like with haircuts. We all need 'em, and our shaggy, groovy hair is making us look like the Partridge Family. You know, except for without the ability to sing, dance, or play instruments.

So, Jack had two choices: (1) join a boy band or (2) accept a haircut from his parents.

And you know, it wasn't too bad. It wasn't good, per se - but it was "good enough." And frankly, that's our measure of success these days - is it good enough? OK, then move on.

In the meantime, I have NOT had a haircut, so I'm working steadily toward this groovy look

Technology to the Rescue

The Candland siblings weren't able to get together in person this Easter, but we did manage to pull off a "Zoom" videoconference. It was great to talk with everyone "face to face." And we only spent roughly half the time trying to help Mom and Dad figure out their video (spoiler alert - we weren't successful); of course the other half was spent assuring them that yes, we could hear them, since audio and video are two different things.

Easter in Captivity

Well, Easter came upon us as we were entering Day 5,838,573,535,353 day of our captivity, I mean, the coronavirus shutdown. So there was no in-person Easter Sunday service, no community egg hunts, and no big family get-togethers. But it was still Easter, and a great one at that. We just had to change things a bit, but we still managed to have a lovely Easter with our tiny family.

Apparently, the Easter Bunny is considered an 'essential worker,' because despite the quarantine, he was able to come and deliver the kids some loot.

This may be the earliest these teenagers have woken up in quite some time.

Jack, looking spiffy as ever in his Easter Sunday best.

Ellie's "Easter dress" took a bit of a turn this year, but hey, whatever works.

One of the gifts was a bunny ring toss

we rarely hit the mark

but we did have fun throwing things at our children

Some of us suspect Ellie wasn't even trying to hit the actual bunny ears.

We were fortunate that a lot of our local churches were doing online church services, so we still got a good Easter sermon.

...in our jammies

We had a lovely (takeout) meal of roasted lamb, potatoes au gratin, green beans, and hot cross buns.

And later, we got an awesome delivery from Cookies & Cream.

All in all, a really, really lovely Easter Sunday.
